Recently, CAT’s Young Men’s group welcomed author, journalist, and Bay Area native Pendarvis Hershaw to campus to speak about his latest book, “OG Told Me.” Hershaw shared his process for writing the book, and his motivation behind it, and talked about what it was like growing up in Oakland in the late 90’s/early 2000’s while young and Black.
Hershaw is just one of many guests that the Young Men’s group plans on having come to the school. The group, which is facilitated by Vice Principal Phillip Chardon, has been described by participants as a “safe space,” a place where the boys can come together, let their guards down, and build community with one another.
Props to our Young Men’s group here at CAT as they continue to build strong, supportive communities on campus.
