Dear CAT Students and Families,

I am writing to inform you that City Arts & Tech will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31. Envision
Schools administration and I made this decision in response to the San Francisco Giants World Championship
Parade scheduled to be held at 11:00AM on 10/31 in downtown San Francisco.

When the Giants last won the World Series in 2010, attendance at CAT dropped close to the 50% mark on
the day of the parade and our school suffered a serious financial loss because of such a dramatic reduction
in attendance. In addition, our academic program was not as strong as it could have been because so many
students did not come to school that day. When classrooms are half-full, it causes a significant shift within
instruction where almost half of our students fall behind in their leaning.

Over the last two days I have been in close contact with Envision Schools Superintendent Gia Truong and
SFUSD in order to make the best decision for the instruction of our students and for the financial health of our
school. Superintendent Truong, representatives from SFUSD, and I all agree that closing school is the best way
to maintain instructional continuity and financial stability for our community.

I want to assure you that overall student learning will not suffer despite losing this day of instruction. Making
sure we are responsive to attendance needs supports our pace of learning so that our projects, group-work, and
whole class instructional strategies can continue with all students working together at the same time.

Thank you for your support and understanding of this important decision. Should you have any questions or
concerns, please contact the main office at 415-841-2200.

Warmly,

Daniel Allen
Principal
